Finalists of the VI contest Educating the Eye

The contest, organized by the Library Mercè Rodoreda in Castell-Platja d’Aro, awards projects that are capable of surprising and exciting.

Castell-Platja d’Aro, May 21st, 2019. Within the framework of the “Photographic Days” organized by the Photographic Association Educant la Mirada, the library Mercè Rodoreda annually announces this photographic competition to stimulate and reward economically the photographic projects of ” authors who are capable of surprising and move emotionally; with an own vision of their personal world or what surrounds them”.

In this sixth edition, 495 projects came from 55 different countries, with themes and techniques from all fields of photography. The jury, made up of 3 people from the world of photography and art and a secretary representing the city council of Castell-Platja d’Aro, has selected the 10 finalists:

  • Abdulmonam Eassa (Siria)
  • Antonio Aragón Renuncio (Santander)
  • Curro Rodríguez Sánchez (Córdoba)
  • Elyxandro Cegarra (Francia)
  • Gonçalo Fonseca (Portugal)
  • Jacob Wallwork (Francia / Australia)
  • Mouneb Taim (Siria),
  • Sara Cabarrocas (Girona)
  • Silvia Landi (Italia)

The finalists authors have been chosen both for the topics presented and for the visual and aesthetic treatment of their images. Compared with the previous edition, we appreciate a special interest for the most narrative proposals linked to the present, instead of the most purely creative ones. This expanded and enriching vision of the photography that the competition is creating in the edition sum after edition, including all facets of photography, reaffirms us in the commitment to be open to all trends and to invite juries each year different and with different interests.

The Educating the Eye contest is open to national and international authors. The thematic and the form of processing are totally free, so that each author can express without any limitation beyond the making use of a with a camera. With interesting economic prizes, as of 2018 also a “local” prize is awarded, specifically for the authors of the province of Girona.

The winners of this year will be made public during the inauguration of the Photographic Days of Castell-Platja d’Aro and the exhibition Educant la Mirada, next June 7.
