Winners of the VI international photo contest Educating the Eye

The contest, organized by the Library Mercè Rodoreda of Castell-Platja d’Aro, has received projects from 55 countries.

Castell-Platja d’Aro, June 7, 2019. Within the framework of the “Photographic Days Educating the Eye” organized by the Photographic Association Educando la Mirada, the Library Mercè Rodoreda  announces this photo contest every year to stimulate and economically reward the photographic projects of authors who be able to surprise and excite; and to transmit a vision of their personal world or the world surrounding them.

In this sixth edition, photographers from 55 countries from the five continents have sent in around 500 projects with a total of more than 6,000 photographs.

The jury, made up of Charlie Cordero (Colombian photographer); Ginebra Peña, (Catalan photographer) and Sophie Yorke (English painter), all artists with recognized prestige and “young promises” under 35 years (the leitmotiv of this year’s conference is “New Looks”), have ruled that winners this year are:

  • First Prize: Abdulmonam Eassa (Siria), with As normal as it gets
  • Second prize: Simon Móricz-Sabjan (Hungary), with The Borsos Family
  • Third Prize: Exlyxandro Cegarra (France), with Gilets jaunes
  • Young Prize: Gonçalo Fonseca (Portugal), with La crisis de la vivienda en Lisboa
  • Local Prize: Sara Cabarrocas (Girona, Spain), with La primera casa, el primer pueblo del Alt Empordà

The projects have been of such quality and so varied that the jury has had a great job and a very equal final selection, so much so that it has needed in some cases the tiebreaker vote of the competition secretariat.

You can visit the exhibition formed by works of the winners and finalists in Masía Bas de Platja d’Aro Aro between June 7 and July 7; with a commented visit on June 14 at 6 pm. For more information: https://fotoplatjadaro.com/en/exhibitions/
