Theoretical-practical workshop
2 sessions of 2 hours
Professional and amateur photographers
2 & 4 December 2025
7-9pm
Theoretical-practical mini-workshop on introduction to black and white in photography.
Although color is ubiquitous in photography today, black and white remains a timeless and powerful language. It connects us to the origins of photography, but it also opens the door to new ways of looking and expressing. By dispensing with colour, the image concentrates on the essential: textures, shapes, volumes and contrasts, generating a unique expressive force that invites abstraction, mystery and visual synthesis.
In this two-hour workshop we will explore black and white not only as a technical resource, but as a creative and narrative choice. We will see how to work with light, how to enhance atmospheres and how to discover the richness of the apparently simple. An experience designed both for those who want to get started in this language and for those who want to expand their expressive resources and experiment with a different look.
The workshop takes place in two 2-hour sessions.
Understand the creative potential of black and white as an expressive resource that transforms the way we perceive light, textures and contrasts.
Learning to observe and work with light to build more powerful images with a greater narrative charge, dispensing with colour.
Experiment with different approaches and techniques to develop a personal gaze and expand creative resources in photographic practice.
Those who have participated in the workshop will be able to request an additional tutored practice session in a smaller group, which will take place between November and December 2025, a date to be agreed.
Anyone curious about photography. No previous experience or professional camera is necessary: mobile phones are more than enough to participate. The methodology allows each participant to adapt the proposals to their own level, from those who start from scratch to those who already have advanced knowledge and want to delve into specific aspects.
This workshop, organized by the Photographic Association Educating the Gaze, is part of the cycle of workshops and conferences of the “BilioLAB”, promoted by the Mercè Rodoreda library. Places are free, with prior registration.
