A look at THE Photography

We proudly invite you to the inauguration of the XI edition of the photographic days of Castell d’Aro, Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró, where we focus on the gaze, work and presence, often little recognized, of women photographers. We will talk about the figure of Frances Benjamin Johnston (1864-1952), one of the first “unofficial” women photojournalists and photographer in the White House. Her self-portrait, chosen as the official image of this edition, symbolizes our desire to vindicate the contribution of women in photography, and we will also explain why the selection of this photograph is aligned with the commitment to visual literacy that has inspired us to carry out these conferences for 11 years. Below we show the selected and winning projects of the XI International Contest of Photographic Projects “Educant la Mirada”. To close the opening day, we will give way to Michele Curel who will offer the conference “A life as a photographer”, where she will present her experiences and perspectives in the field of photography throughout (almost) 40 years that she has been in the profession.
