Workshop: The reinterpretation of photography as a historical document.

This theoretical-practical activity focuses on the historical photographic heritage of Castell-Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró and consists of two parts.

27/10 – Part I. Conference.

In the first part of the activity we review and analyze old photographs of our municipality, both from the Municipal Archive and from Inspai, the Image Center of the Diputació de Girona.

We will approach these images from multiple angles:

• From the vision of a photographer, trying to place ourselves at the moment of their capture and venturing what was the function they had at that time, what were the motivations of their authors and we evaluate the technical and aesthetic aspects of the moment of their realization.
• In turn, we accompany this image in its transformation into a document that testifies to an era and what are the criteria that lead the historian or archivist to identify and value the image as a testimonial document worthy of being guarded.
• Finally, we will talk about rephotography as a leisure activity that allows us to make visible and approach the nearby heritage and we will see some examples.

We invite participants to make on their own pace, throughout the following week, “re-photographs” which we will review, comment and analyze in the next session. .

03/11 Part II. Viewing “rephotography” works made by the participants.

In this session we ask the participants to bring the images they have made and where we can share what the experiences have been and what we consider to be the similarities and differences with the experience of the original photographer, both in the purely technical field and in the emotional and aesthetic ones.

This activity is open to all amateurs and professionals of photography, as well as anyone who has an interest in the visual history of Castell-Platja d’Aro and S’Agaró.
